Bio:

Derek Weinschenk has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saint Thomas and has spent his entire career in operating room airflow. For the last five years he has been with Precision Air uncovering the behavior of airflow in the O.R. and how it affects surgical site infection, temperature management for both clinicians and patients, energy efficiency, and aerosol generating procedure exposure. Precision Air has designed over 15,000 O.R. airflow systems over 50 years and has collected a comprehensive knowledge base made up of computational fluid dynamic models, third party research, and empirical data from installations across the nation as well as a full-scale, in-house O.R.

Many clinicians have concluded that typical operating room airflow systems are a waste of time, and in many cases they are correct. When designed primarily from a construction perspective, many systems fail to meet the basic expectations of the clinicians and patients. During this presentation we will demonstrate the long-term operational consequences of O.R. airflow design and introduce new operational deliverables that you can provide the end-user to exceed their expectations for safety, comfort, and future-proofed facilities.
